The next generation of aluminium in mobility
Readers who have been in the industry for a long time will know that aluminium has been used for over 50 years. Over the same period, the industry has changed tremendously and naturally, this means our products should change too. Euramax has made product development a key strategic focus area and we have launched several innovations recently. We have introduced a new alloy, StrongLite, for instance, helping our customers save weight and cost. This innovation has now been successfully adopted by a major European brand on all of their vehicles. Most recently, we launched SuperiorCoat, our advanced coating system offering the highest scratch and UV resistance on the market today.
In our American business, we are also driving innovation in the industry. We have collaborated with forward-thinking brands to introduce the first travel trailer models featuring seamless, flat aluminium sidewalls. This provides the industry with an alternative to plastic sidewalls, allowing brands to differentiate themselves with all the benefits of aluminium (more on this later). The first models have been unveiled during product launches at recent RV shows, and the market reception has been very promising. We have also redefined industry collaboration by developing training programs for U.S. dealerships, focused on best practices for product repair. Even though these repair procedures are widely used across the automotive sector, we identified a need for expert advice to serve customers better. Starting in Q1 2025, we will expand these training programs into Europe, helping the sector work more effectively with aluminium.
Looking ahead, we have an exciting lineup of innovations in the pipeline, many of which focus on making our industry more circular and sustainable. One of the most important things we can do to reduce our footprint is to simply use less material in the first place. To this end, we are investing in our EcoLite product range. EcoLite is an embossed product that is much stronger and allows for the use of thinner material (as low as 0.45 mm for sidewalls). We offer a wide range of patterns and design options to meet every need, including motorhome sidewalls and interior walls. By doing so, we can help more customers save on materials and costs, benefiting both their bottom line and the environment.
Closing the loop: introducing StrongLite with 80% recycled content
At Euramax for Mobility, our commitment goes beyond helping customers reduce material usage, we’re also focused on advancing circular material solutions. We are proud to announce a major milestone in our journey toward a fully circular product. Over the past year, we’ve collaborated intensively with our suppliers to bring innovative solutions to market. The aluminium industry, in particular, is making strides in circularity, with the use of recycled scrap material increasing each year. This is not only beneficial for the environment; due to the significant energy savings that come with recycled aluminium, it is also more cost-effective for the industry to use scrap rather than primary aluminium. As a result, unlike with many other products, there is no trade-off between sustainability and affordability.
‘There is no trade-off between sustainability and affordability’
We’re now bringing this advancement to the RV industry, with the launch of our StrongLite alloy featuring 80% recycled content planned for Q1, 2025. This is a tremendous increase compared to the ~50% recycled content that StrongLite has today, and results in a ~40% reduction in carbon footprint. Initially, this alloy will be available to select customers, with plans to expand it across our customer base as we scale up our supply chain. This milestone is just one of the steps we’re taking toward our ultimate goal of achieving 100% recycled aluminium content. We invite industry partners to connect and collaborate with us as we continue to drive this important change forward.
Built to last: the unmatched benefits of aluminium
At Euramax for Mobility, we live and breathe coated aluminium: it’s all we have done for over 50 years. In fact, we celebrated our 55th anniversary in November. As the leading supplier of coated aluminium, it will come as no surprise that we are convinced that aluminium is the perfect material when building an RV. This belief is rooted in a variety of compelling factors. Aluminium is infinitely recyclable and the most lightweight solution available, making it the most sustainable choice. Moreover, it is an exceptionally safe choice due to its excellent fire safety properties and protection against lightning. It has a high-end automotive look-and-feel, and due to the best-in-class UV resistance of our paint systems it retains its shine for decades. Finally, thanks to our latest innovation, SuperiorCoat, it is now the most scratch-resistant material on the market—giving your customers peace of mind on every journey.
